The presentation focuses on the difficulty patients have in accessing information and instructions from medication packaging, and how a greater understanding of health literacy in the pharmaceutical industry could improve health literacy skills of patients.

The presentation attempted to provide attendees with a firmer grasp of the finer elements of health literacy, and some tools to take away and use in the workplace with colleagues and patients.

The presentation provides an introduction to definitions and concepts, and illustrates the importance of greater understanding of health literacy to make a difference for the New Zealand health system.
